What Happens on the First Conversation

Say you have a driveway that is too narrow, or a yard with no patio at all. The provider will likely ask a few simple things:

• Where is the property?
• What do you want built, and about how big?
• Is there an old slab to remove?
• Do you have a timeline in mind?

They may suggest a site visit. Many providers prefer to see the space before they quote. That is normal, and it helps the number be more accurate.

What to Ask an Independent Provider

Keep a short list handy:

• Are you licensed and insured for this work?
• What thickness and base will you use?
• How will you handle drainage and frost cycles?
• Will you use reinforcement, and what kind?
• Is sealing part of the quote?
• What permits are needed?
• How long before I can walk or drive on it?
• Can I see photos of past projects?

A good provider will answer plainly. If answers feel vague, keep looking.

Get the Quote in Writing

Quote in writing. It should list the size, materials, prep work, finish and total price. Costs vary by job, so compare written quotes line by line instead of by the bottom number alone.
